Hello chess families,

Welcome to Eton chess club. During the year we are going to study and play chess, solve chess puzzles, and go to tournaments. We use points system to keep track of the students’ progress. I assign optional homework. Students who do the homework receive extra points. The home work can be found on my website: You can also find more info about our chess as well as other afterschool classes including math, piano, art, etc.

If you are new to chess, there is a great computer game “Learn to play chess with Fritz and Chesster” 1, 2, and 3 which explains all the rules and more in a form of games. The link is:

The best way to improve and to enjoy chess is to play. There are several options. First, there are many computer programs which allow you to play against the computer, set up different levels, etc. I recommend:

For IPad, I like Shredder.

Another option is to play on-line. The best site is ICC or Internet Chess Club . It’s a membership-based service (about $7 a month) which ensures safe environment. Most of my private students play there.

There are also many scholastic chess tournaments. They are usually held on Saturdays. We organize our tournaments about once a month from October to June. I will be sending the tournament announcements, and post them on-line as well as pictures of the participants and winners with trophies and medals.

Feel free to reply to me if you have any questions.

Have a nice school year!
